Facebook outage

Huge Facebook outage yesterday, likely just an internal error and not hacking, so nothing for users to worry about. More here.
(I sure wouldn’t want to be the employee who caused it, if there is one).
Updates

A whole bunch of major updates are coming. Our current recommendations:
- iPhone and iPad users: do NOT rush to install iOS/iOS 15; there’s at least one significant change that requires some adjustment (Do Not Disturb), and others will emerge.
- Mac users: please keep automatic updates OFF. You can manually install little updates, but MacOS Monterey (MacOS 12) should arrive in the next couple weeks; let’s avoid unpleasant surprises.
- Windows users: Windows 11 begins rolling out today, but there’s no emergency. Here’s what you need to know. Don’t panic if you don’t want to switch or your computer doesn’t meet the requirements; you’ll have until October 2025 to keep using Windows 10.
We’ll keep you posted on when it’s safer to install the new stuff.
Apple Watch 7

The latest Apple Watch goes on presale this Friday, October 8, with some cool new features and a hefty pricetag. If you’re interested, you have four decisions to make.
1. Size (41 or 45mm)
2. Case material and “finish” (color): lots of options
3. Band (careful to choose the matching size): MANY options
4. Cellular or not
The first three are all decisions that are best made IN PERSON; stop by any store that carries them, not just Apple, and do your research. Adding cellular lets you leave your phone at home, but it adds $100 to the initial cost AND around $10/month for service (comparison here).
